Built to Last
The materials included for construction of the standard In The Woods weathertight shell package are furnished to simplify construction for the typical non-log home builder. All components of the package are typical of standard "stick built" construction with the exception of the exterior log walls. What is unique to our log home package is our log design and our log joinery system, which we call the Weatherlink Construction System.
Weatherlink Construction System
The In The Woods Weatherlink log joining system is a 5 point interlocking system.

An Integral Double Tongue and Groove is milled into each log which provides a barrier at all horizontal joints.

Double row of polyfoam tape is placed on top of each tongue. This polyfoam tape has "memory" so should shrinkage or settling of the logs occur, contact is maintained between the adjoining logs.

An integral drip edge is milled into the log to shed rain water down and away from the log below.

A bead of flexible caulking is placed along the outside of the outside tongue of the log. This bead of caulking bonds to the wood to give an added weather seal.

Lag bolts are used to connect each log to the log below it to maintain wood to wood contact at all horizontal joints.
Air Dried v. Kiln Dried (White Pine)
With Kiln Dried White Pine (or KD White Pine or KDWP), you can expect to receive log and log siding material that has been dried to a moisture content of 19% to one inch below the surface. Frequently by ordering and inventorying large quantities of log wall material, we are able to offer Air Dried material which has achieved, or exceeded, that level of dryness. The slower process of air drying results in logs that exhibit fewer checks than comparably dry Kiln Dried logs. When such Air Dried material is available for logs, log siding or both, we may substitute this superior material for Kiln Dried logs and/or siding, at no extra charge! However, if for some reason you do not want to receive Air Dried logs that are as dry, or drier, than our Kiln Dried material, simply advise your wishes in writing at least 60 days prior to your scheduled delivery.
Manufacturing Process
Step 1: Square cants are brought into the planer mill. The cants then go through a planer/moulder to profile the log style desired, as well as machining the double tongue and groove. Each log is individually graded by a trained operator who is TPI certified. The milled logs are next stacked and stored under shed waiting to be precut.

Step 2: Profiled logs are precut to the exact lengths specified on the blue print. The next step in the precut process is “cutting” the corner system selected. Window and door openings are notched and each log labeled to insure an easy process of erecting the home.
Step 3: The precut logs are then packaged, wrapped with weather resistant wrap and stored ready for delivery.
Step 4: Our planer mill also manufactures log siding to match each log profile, S4S beam packages and door and window trim material.
